Bullock's Oriole

Some of our favorite bird visitors have been the Bullock's Orioles. They show up in the spring and have taught us how to make the hummingbird feeders "Oriole Feeders" by pulling off the bee screens. They threw them onto the ground a few times and then we caught on! Now we keep two covered with bee screens and two open with for the Orioles. They visit the feeders all day long and squawk to announce their arrival. Gene caught this one while trying to photograph a hummer. It was a little dark and the flash took the Oriole by surprise!

  1. That is a great picture! The color is so vivid. I would love to have more birds in my yard, but our kitten loves to attack them. He's already gotten a few robins, poor things. It would seem pretty sadistic to try to attract them, only for things to go horribly wrong...

  2. Our cat is too old to care much it just gets a good spot and watches them. I did have to save a baby bird from her yeasterday-bad cat. I wish I would have got a picture of that cute little bird, it isn't often you can get such a close look at one. Gene yes, me never.
