Kitty, kitty

We have a Triumph Spitfire that we take out on nightly drives around the valley. One of our drives goes somewhere around Spanish Fork and Lakeshore and Palmyra. It's a beautiful drive through hay fields and farm houses. It's usually around sunset and there are flocks of geese and ducks flying overhead and the temperature is cool and perfect!

Last night as we were driving, Gene decided he wanted to go a different way and was making a u-turn near a cute little house. Suddenly I heard a crying kitten. It was crying with every bit of energy it had! I told Gene to wait! There was a small irrigation ditch and with a small orange and white cat looking over the edge, Gene backed around the corner and I crawled (the Triumph is really low to the ground and hard to get out of) out. I looked into the ditch and there was a tiny, maybe two weeks old, kitten! He was standing in mossy water, unable to get out and crying with everything he had! I had to lay on my stomach to get to him. He was shivering and dripping wet. I took Gene's handkerchief and wrapped him up and tried to dry him off as much as I could. I rubbed him on the mama kitty so she could see that he was OK. The mama kitty was small herself. I think we had a teenage pregnancy thing going on here. Anyway, mama was adorable! She rubbed all over my feet and legs and was so affectionate.

I went to the house to see if anyone was there. The front door was open, but no one answered. I started to walk around the house and suddenly I heard another crying kitty! This one was in a shrub next to the house. Yay! I found their home! I put the almost dry kitty into the bushes with the other kitty and walked back to the car. Mama kitty followed and I gave her a few more pets and told her to keep her babies away from the water! Of course, being a young kitty herself she probably was clueless. After we left I couldn't stop thinking about them. I hope they're OK and that little kitty will stay away from the water!

  2. Ooh! Breaks my heart. So random that you heard a kitten crying over the sound of the car! I'm happy you were there to save it :)
